Romeo & Juliet Tybalt (Basil Rathbone) Costume

From what many consider the ultimate movie version of Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet", the classic MGM version in 1936, personally produced by MGM's head of production, the legendary Irving Thalberg, and staring his wife, the superstar Norma Shearer. This production was not only known for its intelligence, accessibility and beautifully realized production and script (directed by the legendary George Cukor), but for its amazing and unique costumes. In the all star cast was most of MGM's biggest stars including Leslie Howard, John Barrymore and Basil Rathbone as Tybalt. This is Rathbone's famous iconic under-vest with the famous metal almond-oval amulets that completely covered the sleeves. This costume is seen in many sequences, especially the ill-fated sword fight he has with Romeo. It has both the original red "Western Costume" stamp (number 46), and the original "Western Costume" label, with "RATHBONE" written in the original ink.
