This policy explains what personal information ThePropArchive.com ("we," "us") collects, how we use and share it, and the choices you have. It applies to this website and our newsletter.

- Account information: username, email address, password (stored in hashed form), and any profile details you choose to add.
- Submissions: corrections, contributions, comments, uploaded images, and messages sent through our forms, along with any contact details you include. Uploaded images may contain embedded metadata such as camera details, dates, or location.
- Newsletter: your email address and your subscription preferences.
Information collected automatically
- Technical data: IP address, browser and device type, operating system, referring page, pages viewed, and dates and times of visits.
- Cookies and similar technologies: small files and identifiers that keep you signed in, remember preferences, measure traffic, and support advertising. See "Cookies, tracking, and advertising" below.
Information about people in archive entries
Archive entries may name individuals connected to an item's history, such as former owners or consignors, as reported in published sources. See "Individuals named in archive entries" below.

How we share information
We share personal information only as follows:
- Service providers that host the site, deliver email and the newsletter, provide analytics, and protect against spam and attacks. They may use the information only to provide services to us.
- Public content: submissions you choose to publish, and your username, are visible to anyone visiting the site.
- Legal and safety: when required by law, or to protect our rights, users, or the public.
- Business transfers: if the site is sold or transferred, personal information may transfer with it, subject to this policy.
We do not sell personal information for money. Some states treat advertising cookies as a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information; you can opt out as described below.
Cookies, tracking, and advertising
We use cookies for sign-in and preferences, and for analytics. Third parties, including our analytics and advertising partners, may collect information about your activity on this site and across other websites over time.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies may prevent sign-in from working.
Do Not Track: This site does not respond to browser "Do Not Track" signals.
Global Privacy Control: We treat a Global Privacy Control signal as a request to opt out of advertising-related sharing for that browser. (We do not employ advertising at this time, outside of our newsletter sign-up page.)
Newsletter
You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any newsletter email. We will continue to send account-related messages, such as password resets, while you have an account.
Individuals named in archive entries
If you are named in an archive entry, for example as a former owner or consignor, you may ask us to remove or redact your name by clicking on the "Suggest a correction or add information" link on any listing and fill out the form. We will review requests promptly and generally honor them unless the information is necessary to the historical record and already widely published.
Your choices and rights
- Account data: you can review and update your account information in your account settings, or ask us to delete your account by submitting through the "Suggest a correction or add information" link on any listing.
- Submissions: published contributions may remain on the site after an account is deleted, attributed to a deleted user, unless you ask us to remove them.
- State privacy rights: depending on where you live, you may have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to correct or delete it, and to opt out of its sale or sharing for advertising. To make a request, click on the "Suggest a correction or add information" link on any listing and fill out the form. We will verify your request before acting on it, and we will not treat you differently for exercising these rights.
- Visitors outside the United States: the site is operated from the United States, and information is processed and stored there.
Data retention
We keep account information while your account is active and for up to a one-year period afterward. We keep messages and submission records as long as needed to handle them and maintain the archive's edit history. Server logs are kept for up to one-year period.
Security
We use reasonable safeguards, including encrypted connections and hashed passwords. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children
This site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Accounts and newsletter subscriptions require users to be at least 13. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. We will post the revised version with a new effective date and, for material changes, notify account holders by email or with a notice on the site.
