Carroll was a English-born who became a familiar face of both the large and small screen, appearing in such films as The House on 92nd Street, Forever Amber and Father of the Bride, but his best-remembered role is probably that of Alexander Waverley, the head of the U.N.C.L.E. agency on TV's The Man From U.N.C.L.E.
