How the Grinch Stole Christmas – Grinch’s Cave Bolts - H4-129

A collection of thirteen custom-made plastic bolts created for use by Jim Carrey as the Grinch and as set dressing in Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas (Universal, 2000). These bolts, ranging in size up to 2.75 inches in length, were designed to safely mimic real metal hardware while maintaining the exaggerated, cartoon-like aesthetic of Whoville’s peculiar world. Bolts like these can be seen scattered throughout the Grinch’s cluttered lair atop Mount Crumpit, notably within his chaotic collection of improvised gadgets and noise-making contraptions, such as the blenders and other makeshift machines he uses to drown out the joyful singing of the Whoville residents below. Each piece is individually cast and finished to resemble aged metal, displaying the handcrafted attention to detail typical of production designer Michael Corenblith’s vision for the film’s Seussian universe. This rare set offers a tangible piece of the Grinch’s mechanical mayhem and serves as a perfect display for collectors of How the Grinch Stole Christmas props and holiday movie memorabilia.
