BSG Gaeta Bosun Whistle ‘Blood on the Scales’
The bosun’s whistle consists of a narrow tube (the “gun”), which directs air over a metal sphere (“the ”buoy“) with a hole in the top. The rest of the pipe consists of a ”keel"--a flat piece of metal beneath the gun that holds the whiste together--and the shackle--a keyring that connects a long silver chain that sits around the collar.
Provenance
Taken directly from the set of the NBC/Universal production, Battlestar Galactica, by Propworx staff.
A bosun’s whistle (also known as a boatswain’s call) is traditionally used aboard a naval vessel to pass commands to the crew when a human voice cannot be heard over the sounds of the sea. This prop was intended for use by Lieutenant Gaeta to render military honors for Admiral Cain’s funeral in the Second Season episode “Resurrection Ship, pt. II.” Actual use of this prop is unknown.
