Before the grand sci-fi classic "Forbidden Planet" (1956), space adventures were basically reduced to low-budget B movie serials. However this outer space take on Shakespeare's "The Tempest" redefined the science fiction genre forever. Alas, many cheap knock-offs were made after this, and it was Kubrick's "2001" that brought it back into focus, but "Forbidden Planet" still holds up after all these years. And the image of Robby the Robot carrying Altaria Morbius (Anne Francis) in his arms in all the posters and ads is forever etched in our minds, even though that scene never appears in the film. But that doesn't matter since Anne Francis was such a magnificent beauty, we didn't care if it was true or not!
