Ben Hur (1925) Lionel Barrymore Chariot Race Medallion
A true rare Hollywood memorabilia collectable. When director Fred Niblo was making the original 1925 version of "Ben Hur" at MGM, he needed as many extras as he could find for the epic iconic Chariot Race scene. As an MGM in-joke virtually all their great major stars under contract and Hollywood VIP's, came over to be "Chariot Race Spectators", including Gary Cooper, Joan Crawford, Marion Davies, Douglas Fairbanks, Mary Pickford, Lillian Gish, Samuel Goldwyn, Sid Grauman , Harold Lloyd and John and Lionel Barrymore. Each was given a "chariot race medallion" and chain as a thank you for their participation. This is Lionel Barrymore's treasured medallion. It has been in the possession of a studio employee for years. Comes with a note from the employee.
