2001: A Space Odyssey 70 mm Kodak Safety Film Reel
2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) - 70 mm Kodak safety film reel directly from the production. Film reads s164 likely for the scene number. The film was originally announced in 1965 as a "Cinerama" film and was photographed in Super Panavision 70 (which uses a 65mm negative combined with spherical lenses to create an aspect ratio of 2.20:1). It eventually was released in a limited "roadshow" Cinerama version, then in 70mm and 35mm versions. This reel contains film from the "I'm Afraid" scene where David was trying to turn off HAL-9000. It is about 26:32 minutes before the end of the movie. This comes directly from the estate of Nick Frewin. Nick worked with Stanley Kubrick on most of his films in the prop department and as a designer for Kubrick for over twenty-five years. This came directly from the estate and direct from Kubrick's company and this may be the only one in existence.
