Napoleon - Napoleon's (Joaquin Phoenix) Russian Campaign Coat - 57-9
This exceptional, custom-made coat was worn by Joaquin Phoenix in his portrayal of Napoleon Bonaparte during the Russian Campaign sequences of Ridley Scott’s epic historical film Napoleon (2023). Designed and constructed specifically for the production, the coat reflects the austere military authority and harsh winter conditions depicted during Napoleon’s ill-fated march into Russia. The coat is tailored from rich dark green velvet, exhibiting a long, commanding silhouette consistent with early 19th-century military overcoats. It is heavily trimmed and fully lined with thick brown fur, including a wide fur collar, front placket, sleeve cuffs, and hem, providing both visual gravitas and functional warmth for the winter campaign scenes. The front is adorned with ornate gold cord frog closures, each finished with tassel detailing and decorative knots, reinforcing its imperial military styling. Interior construction reveals meticulous period tailoring, with layered linings and reinforced seams indicative of high-budget studio craftsmanship. The coat retains visible signs of on-set use, including subtle wear and embedded atmospheric debris consistent with filming in simulated winter environments. Included with the coat is the original production-used costume tag, prominently labeled “MARENGO”. The item(s) may exhibit varying levels of wear and studio distressing, as detailed in the listing images that provide an accurate representation of the condition. All inner wardrobe tags have been photographed to offer insight into size and use. If tags are absent from the photographs, it indicates that they were removed by the studio, and no size information is available.
